JDM D16 Wrong Crank?!

I have a 97 civic ex with that had a D16Y8 & bought a JDM D16Y but after replacing the crank seals found out the crank was bigger so the gear from my original motor wouldnt fit it. My crank gear bolt was a 17mm & the JDM motor was a 19mm. Are there any ways to solve the problem so the crank sensor will work? I was told they dont run crank sensors in japan so it didnt matter there.

Re: JDM D16 Wrong Crank?!

There's a couple things you can do:

Buy a JDM ECU. They don't read the crank sensor like the USDM ones do so if you swap one in then you're all set.

Option two is to just use an obd2a jumper to obd1 and don't plug the crank sensor in at all. There's no pin for the sensor in the jumper harness, so your USDM ECU won't go "WTF" when you try to start the car.

Option three is to just buy USDM parts

Thanks for the info I knew sometimes it could be jumped from the distributor but hadnt thought about replacing the ECU. Will try the jumper first.

Re: JDM D16 Wrong Crank?!

So ive been researching this motor & it has a y8 vtec head casting with a y7 non vtec valve train. The crank is a 19mm like the d17's but dont know if its from a d17. Having oil pressure problems now & the car only ran right for two weeks after i had the motor installed. So frustrated and dont know what to do. I feel like this motor has been mismatched.
