Intermittent Speedometer
Intermittent Speedometer
hey guys, im new to the forum here. got a bone stock 98 Ex that is my daily mule. The speedometer works maybe 10% of the time, the rest of the time it is on 0 mph. I read some other posts on here and some had issues with the VSS and others found a bad cluster or others had a poor ground. I have a hunch that the cluster is the culprit. Some guy on here was saying something about a chip or something on the back of the speedo cluster that made it possible to keep your own cluster. anybody know more about this? thanks for the help

Re: Intermittent Speedometer
If the CEL isn't on, and the PCM doesn't have a VSS code (P0500), then it is going to be the speedo head itself.
The circuit board on the back of the speedo itself is the culprit, not the circuit board on the back of the cluster.
The speedo comes out of the cluster, it can be replaced separately.
