I have a question, 99 civic
i have a 99 civic coupe ex. and i spun a barring. so im going to sell it so i can get a new one but im not sure how much i should be selling it for. can anyone help me determine how much i should be putting this car up for to get the must i can get with out being too high.
Re: I have a question, 99 civic
$500-1000 for a shell, which is what you're actually selling.
If you like this car then get a new engine and drop it straight in. Ask you're mechanic how much it'll be to get a replacement or find an engine yourself and have them do the labor. Those engines are about $500 used. Try here for a salvage engine: http://www.car-part.com/ If you have to get it shipped it's about $100. Also try local craigslist. Here's one from my local CL: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/2699079057.html '97-'00 EX should all be the same engine (D16Y8).
If you're unsure what engine you have it's stamped right here:

Good luck.

really? so low? geez..that seems like a half empty price range lol. i need to buy a new car. im a delivery driver for dominos. i cant make money without a car. or look for a job that doesnt require a car. let alone get to the interview. the money i get for the civic goes directly towards the new car. but 300 - 500 is extremely low sadly.

Re: I have a question, 99 civic
I'd drop a used engine in it and get it back on the road.
Used is cheaper than a rebuild, especially if you can get a used engine for $500. I'd take the time to put a timing belt and water pump in it before it goes in the car, and adjust the valves. Maybe a head gasket, depending on how I felt about it.
Right now, the car is just a paperweight without a running engine.
Scrap value, unless you can find a wide-eyed kid to dump it on.

Re: I have a question, 99 civic
Yes, it is extremely low, but the car needs a major repair and only someone extremely experienced with the initiative and time to do the work themselves would be interested in purchasing it at present. Even then, it needs to be cheap, because if they can't buy it for significantly less than a car with an engine in running condition after the parts and repair time is factored in then there's no incentive.
You'd be better off in the long run to buy an engine and find someone able to swap it in on a budget.

Re: I have a question, 99 civic
i understand. now the problem with that is any money that i can get would have to come from the car. so i cant buy an engine or pay the labor. i have under a 100 dollars to my name and im only gettin 2 days on the scheduel to work the inside for a bout 3 hours each day with the chance of gettin sent home early if its slow. noone to lend me the money or anything. literally my only prospect is that car. as much as i just want to fix it i cant afford to. and apparently i wont be able to afford another car either.. im gonna be looking at enough to buy a decent bike. maybe even a helmet... awesome....

Well then, that's a tough spot to be in, I understand how frustrated you must feel.
If it's the crank bearing, then you cannot do the repair without removing the engine.
If it's a rod bearing, you can do a relatively simple repair, but it most likely will not be a permanent solution. Going the route I'm about to suggest, the engine might run another 50k or only 1k, it all depends on how badly damaged the crankshaft journals are. Basically, it's a patch to give you some time. Your option, that you could do yourself with rented tools (autozone or CT) if you go slow, would be removing the oil pan and replacing the bearing. Instead of a complete rebuild, you would be pulling the piston, rod, bearing out from the bottom and putting new ones in. Get a haynes manual from the parts store, follow it, and hope for the best. Worst case scenario, you get stuck in the middle and your broken car becomes a slightly disassembled broken car. If the crank is damaged though, like I said, it's a patch and won't last that long.

That sucks, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Try posting on craigslist and see if someone will trade their motorcycle or scooter for it. Can't think of anything else right now.
