I believe they are slightly different. I believe the 96-98 have slightly narrower headlight with more of a curve at the inner corner along with a narrower grill and a thicker piece of bumper in between. If I am wrong someone please let me know. I have been told I have a 99 front on my 98 ex. And comparing to a 98 hatch I could see it.

The 99-00 are more "aggressive" wider grill narrower and slighly longer head lights rounder bumber and the fog lights are located under the headlights were as 96-98 has its fogs in the lower grill piece so to make the headlights fit you would need the hood bumper cover and quarter panels lol

In order to make them fit you would need to change the front end.

Hood, Wings, Radiator support, Grill, and Bumper.

Its alot of work but makes the car look like the later model when your done.

99 does not fit 96,97, or 98. it will fit 00. very plain and simple. if you change your entire front clip to a 99 or 00 spec then the lights will fit otherwise its not even close. you cant get the lights in at all.

have those plastic clips handy they sometimes break, if go buy some go to a GM dealership and them from there, they are a lot better and more durable and easier to pull out at later dates. there are two bolts holding the bottom of the bumper cover on make sure to not over tighten them when putting it all back together as they may break. (depending if your car rusts were you are) now your lighting harness MAY be different im not 100% sure you would have to plug it and see if it all works like it should but im thinking the side markers/turn signals are wired differently

If you read this thread you would not have to ask these questions.

99-00 is not interchangeable with 96-98. plain and simple

If you have a 96-98 and you want 99-00 front end parts to fit then you need the whole 99-00 front clip. (Bumper cover, fenders, hood, lights). and Vice versa.

If you look closely at the front ends you will see they looking different. same characteristics. but different look and styling!
