97 civic lx CEL

only when raining does my CEL come on, and the codes are always cylinder misfire for cylinders 1 and 2.
i have replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, and distributor cap.
i can drive around for months when its not raining out and the CEL wont come on but within the first 2 hrs of driving when its raining the CEL will come on.
i have looked at the wires, and all the wire plugs and none seem to be loose or have any type of abnormal wear or and cutting or splicing.
i am thinking about maybe using a spray sealant to coat some of the connections/plugs for water proofing.
does anyone know what wires/plugs would be causing a cylinder misfire if they got wet?
or does anybody know of another reason why i get a CEL only when its raining?

Check and replace any bad ground wires. Next time it rains check for the specific code and we can go from there. Autozone will check the code for free.

Re: 97 civic lx CEL

awesome pictures! this is great info! now does it matter if i go with a larger gauged wire if i replace some of these? i have lots of 8 gauge wiring and lots of 0 gauge, i am thinking the 8 gauge is what i would go with.

Re: 97 civic lx CEL

If I had to I would only go 1 gauge size but, if it's more than 1 size then you're gonna have to get wire anyways. Might as well get the right size.

Re: 97 civic lx CEL

well i think it worked! replaced all the ground wires in the pictures you posted. two of the wires where just junk but could not tell until i had taken them off, the terminals almost fell off in my hand because the wires had rusted and started to fall apart. the connections where not really grounded either. the engine bay had been painted before i bought the car and so the ground wires where just sitting on top of paint and not bare metal. last night it rained here pretty hard and i took my car out for a few hrs and no check engine light came on!
Thanks lazlong
