RPM/Vtec question on 1998 1.5i LS
RPM/Vtec question on 1998 1.5i LS
I've just bought a 2nd hand Honda, as above. It seems to be a bit sluggish, and I'm not sure if it's just the engine size (last Honda I had, years ago, was a 2.2Vtec 'lude) or if there's something wrong with the Vtec/Timing.
Seems to rev fine in 1st & 2nd (all the way to 5000, I stopped there), but in 3rd upwards it seems to accelerate S L O W L Y, and the revs struggle to get above 3500. In fact, I've noticed the car stutters at abouth this revs. Sooooo - any ideas what it could be? and is there anyway of fixing it?
(side point - any way I can easily check fault codes?)
Final point: As i mentioned, just bought. If it is a big Vtec problem would it be covered by the 3-month trade warranty?

You need an OBDII scan tool or the autoparts store should be able to read it with their scan tool or go to the local mechanic to see if he'll read it for codes. The mechanics could charge anywhere from free to $100.
Sounds like a fuel pump/filter or injector problem. If there's no code(s) try changing the fuel filter. It's on the firewall in-line with the fuel hose coming from the tank.
