Replace exh. manifold 2000 DX

Got a crack in manifold, I bring it in, guy takes it out, it's a 1 piece that attaches directly to, but does not include, the cat; he calls Honda and they insist the replacement is a 1 piece that is not separable from the cat. Car was manufactured in Canada and sold new in Massachusetts but is now in California (and sticker says it is within emissions clearance for Cal.- plus it passed smog test here last time). So now I apparently have to buy the "two-piece" unit for $600 rather than the unit without cat that costs $400. Or do I? Anyone had this experience?

According to the online catalog you should have the cat in the manifold. Is there an O2 sensor sticking out of the manifold? Where ever the sensor is is where the cat is- either in the manifold or in the exhaust pipe.

I just had problem with the cat in our 2000 LX, Rock Auto sold both the manifold and cat together. The problem I am having 4 weeks later is a couple of the nuts loosened up on top of the manifold and it is running rough. Should this smooth out again now that everything has been re-tightened?

Short answer- yes. If it doesn't smooth out then try resetting the ECM/PCM. To reset the ECM/PCM: with the ignition OFF, remove the backup fuse in the under hood fuse box for 10 seconds.

Thanks, but nope- the cat definitely remined under the hood while we held the manifold in our hands.

Then you probably have the EX exhaust (cat is under the car). Can you take pics?

Re: Replace exh. manifold 2000 DX

The station put it back together so I can't get a picture; when he had the manifold out and in his hand it was easy to spot the cylinder holding the cat (or is that cylinder itself the cat?) by simply looking down from above the engine. The VIN shows the car as an LX, though I haven't found that info anywhere else.
