Making my civic look good
Making my civic look good
I bought my 1997 Civic DX 4 door a bit over a month ago. I know I can't really do much with a SOHC automatic, and it has a lot of miles on it (220,000). I am really more interested in making it look good (and we all know thats going to add major hp). I just put in new black carpet (charcoal was stock).
Next interior thing I want to do is racing seats. Want it to be comfortable. Perhaps with a 4pt system.
I want to get projector headlights also. Something like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-E...ht_5373wt_1167
Any other suggestions? I definitely don't want to rice this lol.
EDIT:
Here are some pictures of it. Just waxed it. Broke out the DSLR

Re: Making my civic look good
Good quality, non-rice racing seats are usually $500+ per seat. Good quality harnesses are about $350+ each and aren't actually legal for street use.
My first mods would be rims, stiffer springs, fog lights and a lip kit.

I was going to paint the window trim and the wiper blades soon. Was thinking black, as thats what I have seen around. You think white would look good?
EDIT: Also, what seat's do you think would look/feel good? I just realized that I would have to put in a cage, and that would mean removing the backseat, and I don't want to do that. I assume you could just use factory belts.
EDIT2: Oh, you were talking about the plastic. You think white?

I don't know where to look really. I am a web developer, so my background generally just goes to ebay/amazon, but all I see is crappy 200/pair JDM seats. Should I be looking more local?

Re: Making my civic look good
Search bride, sparco and recaro on ebay and you'll find lots of seats. You just need to be really careful about who you buy from, there are a lot of fake seats out there.

Any seats in particular? I am looking for really comfortable racing seats, as it's a daily driver. Don't plan to race lol. What sets the a pair of $400 seats (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLACK...ht_3909wt_1215) from that pair of $800 seats you listed? Sorry if I am asking stupid questions.
Re: Making my civic look good
Ok. Thanks for the info. Think it's worth the money to put in racing seats? Or just recondition stock seats and reupholster them? Also, what type of brackets do you need to bolt them in?

Re: Making my civic look good
You bolt them to brackets made specifically for the seats and car, and no, unless your car is heavily modified high end seats don't look right. Like I suggested earlier in the thread, look for gsr seats. They're nice, leather, comfortable, cheapish and bolt right up.

What should I do for backseats? I think the old cloth seats would look bad with new carpet and leather front seats. I assume the back seats from the GSR would not fit...
EDIT: Does it matter that it's a 2 door?

Re: Making my civic look good
Don't mistake them for "racing" Advertised seats...
For 4 point seat belts, you don't need a roll cage, just a bar that can hold (if well designed) the harness. Racing harness also have a life. Beyond the "life", you need to change them by rules. Could not be accepted depending on local Laws. Don't get driven by Advertising. Reasearch about before installing them in your car. some "racing" products could be worse than stock ones...
Re: Making my civic look good
Racing seats are supposed to hold you in place, unless specifically designed for 24 hour race or long days rally's...

Re: Making my civic look good
don't worry too much about roll-over, I did spin a couple times in autoX, no experience in spins on road track. The only roll-over i had was with an old VW 1973 bus, which you can tell the center of gravity is not ideal, nor the suspension configuration. I had a spin in heavy rain (1 1/2 water in the ground) in a golf-type VW and ended up a hill about 10 feet above the hill, around 25 deg. It did not roll over either, I got the car reaward (almost) aligned before climbing the hill, though.
Veery few civics did roll over too. Unless you go too much for "racing" without understanding RACING techniques and really screw up, modern cars do NOT roll, Daymler A-Class not withstanding (fail moose test in europe a few years ago due to very high center of gravity)

Re: Making my civic look good
I know it would be really hard to roll a civic. I was just looking for conferrable seats, and I am fine with the factory belts. Also, updated main post with some pictures.

Re: Making my civic look good
I understand, just had to comment, since other newbies might mis-understand what you wrote above...
I saw a lot of mistaken ideas about racing products being used in the streets... Thought i would chime in...
Many thinks using a "racing" product would be better for the streets... not really true... Look at drilled rotors... Many even think they are related to "racing"... wrong!
Also, to add, a roll cage too close to an unprotected head (no helmet), even with padding, can cause a lot of damage to the organic side of the impact...
