engine was swapped
engine was swapped
I have a 1997 ex that a 2000 hx engine/auto. was put in the car. The ecu is a p2p. The other individual swapped the intake and throttle body from the d16y8 engine. The car is getting fuel and has spark but through my research I believe I am going to need another ecu or just an adapter harness for current ecu. Any help will be appreciated this is driving me nuts. Is there a harness to go from the p2p to the d16y5 engine ?
Re: engine was swapped
According to http://www.hondata.com/techecuid.html:
P2P = 96+ OBD-2 Civic EX
P2N = 96+ OBD-2 Civic HX
The difference is the vtec activation in the P2N. The HX has Vtec-E, which essentially means that it activates 8 of the 16 valves at ~2800 RPM's and the remaining valves at ~5800 RPM's (for fuel economy) The EX only has the one vtec activation at ~5800 RPM's. I found a thread from clubcivic.com (http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showthread.php?t=92786) and the guy said he used a P2P ecu in his HX and he took it to a shop and they tested it and reported that it worked fine. I don't know if the shop did any modifications to his P2P ecu to make it work for his HX. My educated guess is that since both have vtec activation, and the P2P doesn't have the first vtec activation that the P2N has, the first activation would just be skipped and only initiated at the 5800 RPM threshold.
However, my recommendation would be to get an HX (P2N) ECU to take advantage of the first/second vtec activation as this is one of the many advantages that the HX has. If the other guy swapped the intake and throttle body from the Y8 engine then you should be fine in that regard.
