i've just purchased me a 97 civic 4 door. the back driver side outside door wasn't working and my lame self got confused and thought "hey, it might be the child proof lock on." so i open the door from the inside and switched the child proof lock. Now assuming thought that was the problem, but really I REALLY got it all confused, i closed the door and now i completely cannot open the door from inside and out. Any kind of advice? Friend told me break the door panel from the inside, but i cannot see that happening. tried to switch the child proof from the inside by using a hanger, but it wont switch if the door is closed. PLEASE HELPPPP!!!!

Sounds like the latch itself is bad. Maybe try taking the door apart from the inside. Start by taking off the window crank (if you have one), then remove the inner handle, then remove the grip cover and unscrew the screws in the base of the grip. The panel should have plastic pins that pop out towards you, then the whole panel slides up out of the window trough. Stumped at how to remove the latch itself without destroying it though.
