enhancing performance on 2000 si, cheap, whats first?

Okay, so not a lot of money here but I would like to drop bit by bit into my 2000 civic si.. just wondering what you guys think is first.. I was thinking a cold air intake would be a good first choic, seems on how its remotly cheap, and from what I understand will give me a little pep on the throttle.. does this sound about right?
Also, if I were going to drop a chip in it would the cpu be a good first priorty for a cheap performance inhancer?
Thanks for the input!!

Welcome to the furum.

I would get a Hondata ECU. The chip I have heard mixed reviews on, most say it's a bad investment. The Hondata ECU will give you the ability to tune it when you add news things to the engine in future, so I would say that a very good choice for a first mod. CAI does a little bit, but I would get Regular intake not a cold air one, only because it can suck up water.

Cold air intake can suck up water? Isn't there a way I can prevent that, like using a short arm pipe? Honestly I would prolly bui?ld thee pipe my self..
I'm thinking as performance, what type of difference is it going to give me having a cold air intake vs. Regular intake?

It's called a short ram intake, or SRI

Cold air sucks up water if road is wet (because it's mounted very close to floor)
Short ram sucks up warmer air because it's located in the engine compartment

If you dont live in a place that doesnt constantly rain, then CIA would be better
Theres a thread on this forum where someone built a SRI out of PVC pipes, look it up

Hondata is like a couple hundred ~ 1G if you want to spend that much

Intake/exhaust/Header will only add minor performance, but nice sounds

Is there somthing I can mount around, or underneath the cold air filter to help prevent rain from being sucked up? Also sucking in air from inside engine bay, is the air realy that warm in there to were when I'm driving the car I'm sucking up warm or hot air.. I understand air from the ground will be colder, but is it really a significant amount colder?

I would just get a short ram. It's a lot simpler/cheaper and you will never have to worry about water. Trust me, I blew a head gasket when I sucked up water on my CAI. And that's not the worst that can happen.

sucking up water should'nt be a issue if CAI is installed between bumper and inner fender plastic
if your still concerned use this,
