Exhaust Swap

I got a cat-back exhaust system and I need to know exactly what I need to do to install it. What tools will I need and is there anything I should know?

Re: Exhaust Swap

All you will need top put this on is a jack of course, 2 jack stands and a socket set. The socket for the bolts are probably 10mm or 12mm. All you do is unbolt the axle back from the resonator, then the resonator from the midpipe and the midpipe from the header. When you put it on start from the header then go back.

Oh and you will need some wd-40 or some pb blaster.

Re: Exhaust Swap

New gaskets wouldn't hurt, either. Don't do what I did and try and swap that **** hot.. The bolts are harder to unscrew and I damn near burned my hand on the cat.. lol

Lol I learned to wear mechanic gloves when dealing with things still hot.

Re: Exhaust Swap

Lol.. This was back in my younger dumber days.. I had access to a lift courtesy of the navy, and I decided to use what I thought was something safe as an overhead hand rest while my buddy was doing something. Turns out it was a hot cat.. lol.

I always have a pair of mechanix gloves in my glove box.

Re: Exhaust Swap

So are the bolts gonna be hard to get off because of being exposed to years of heat?

Re: Exhaust Swap

Nah, its just when metal gets hot, it expands, and if there are dissimilar metals involved, then they're gonna expand at different rates. If they expand at different rates, then the threads are gonna have a lot more friction between them, thus making them hard to remove. Learned that the hard way as a mechanical engineer in the Navy.

Plus, I'd rather work on a cold exhaust system than a hot exhaust system.

edit: if anything, they'd be a bitch to get off due to years of being exposed to years of water and dirt.

Re: Exhaust Swap

I understand that. Can I use the same cat-back exhaust when I swap the B18 in?
