Rear sway bar questions
Rear sway bar questions
Now that I finally have my rear disc swap done I was looking into doing a 19mm RSX rear sway bar on my 1998 Civic LX to compliment the 22mm stock bar up front.
I've been told you have to do some drilling (because my model did not come with rear bars from the factory) and you also need subframe reinforcement (I was going to go with the ASR brace)
I'm new to suspension and I'm not exactly sure how everything fits together.
Can someone tell me where the endlinks attach? Do they attach to that hole in the lower control arm? (pictured) or is it somewhere else? Where can I get endlinks that will work? Will Grey's endlinks work, or should I get stock ones from a RSX?
I've also been told you have to drill out the existing subframe in order to attach the sway bar mounting brackets. It appears that my car already has these holes (directly above jackstands in pic)
Any advice/explanations would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
Thanks

Re: Rear sway bar questions
You can bolt on an OEM 99-00 Civic Si bar as your car was manufactured with all holes/mounting space and bracket mount holes. I highly recommend this bar as it's not too large (14MM) as larger=oversteer especially in compromised grip (winter/rain etc). Plus it will definitely not rip out the control arms or mounting points on the body.
RSX will be much larger and the end links will be completely different, as were the Integra's.
Good luck.

Re: Rear sway bar questions
Really????? That is amazing news! So all I need is the mounting brackets, bar, and endlinks?
(I found the endlinks at Beaks Products)
My car won't have the nut welded in there like the Si did. If I go to the Honda dealer and get the hardware will the bolts that hold the D-bracket on be long enough to put a nut on the end of?

Re: Rear sway bar questions
Man, you're gonna love this.
Wednesday night, I swapped out my 13mm for an RSX-S 19mm... immediately different car.
Going from NO bar to the 19mm ... wow you're gonna love this mod!

Re: Rear sway bar questions
1. Screw the RSX bar. If I got that then I'd have to go with the subframe reinforcement....this girl is just a DD
2. I was looking at getting parts from Majestic Honda
Does anybody know if I need that spacer?
(part number 30 http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...REAR+LOWER+ARM)
I'm assuming I do
3. Grendel - your bar wasn't from an 99 or 00 Si was it....? If so would you be interested in selling me the bar and brackets?

Re: Rear sway bar questions
Bar, brackets and end links. The nut comes with the end links and it's seriously a 20 minute job the first time you do it. The nuts are not welded on any of them as they all used exactly the same lower control arms.

It's about half way down, the shot with the rear LCA

For anybody else doing this add on this DIY from our friends at Toronto Civic Club was EXTREMELY HELPFUL

Re: Rear sway bar questions
just go with the stock si sway bar bolts rite in and not to overpowering, my civic handles better on the auto cross track then my friends evo with over 400 hp, i smoked him by over 3 sec, im using a stock d series just all suspension mods, she handles like she is on rails.
Re: Rear sway bar questions
You can probably get one cheap on eBay or on the classifieds on this thread. I got all my parts new from Majestic Honda.com and it ended up being WAYYYY cheaper than getting them from the local Honda dealer here in Grand Rapids. Final cost was around $200
Re: Rear sway bar questions
Others that I've talked to haven't been able to notice the difference, though.
I guess it depends how attentive you are - some people won't drive without their music blaring... I don't even play music while I drive (I prefer paying attention to the car/road/wind/etc).
Will you notice it? It'll definitely make a noticeable difference, just depends on whether you're the type of driver who'll notice or not.

I've always been able to tell the difference, and right away.

I do on occasion. Not usually, though. Pretty much only when others are in the car with me and wanna hear something.
