Lightbulb Swap or mod?

I'm kinda new to the tuner side
I have a d16y7 in a 2000 civic lx
what should I do swap or mods?

I'm getting a short ram intake for it.
Other than that it's stock

Any help is appreciated thanks

Shotting for the sky here but Is a gsr swap worth it?

Re: Swap or mod?

I'd stick with the motor you got, its got a lot of tuning potential.

Since your throwing the idea of a swap around, you sound like your looking for power. Crower makes a lot of engine parts for your motor, which is where I think you should start before you go wasting money on non-performance parts like oil caps and socks to put on your engine bay parts.

If you go with a cam (which will increase your power), I have a brand new box of springs and retainers that will fit your motor... check my forsale thread if your interested.

Anyways, good luck with the modding and welcome to the tuner world.

Re: Swap or mod?

Intake, cam + valve train upgrade, exhaust, and hondata tuning chip. What you have left over can go to stereo, tint, ed hardy seatcovers or whatever fits your fancy. Actually, you should have a good chunk of that left over after those parts, maybe 500 or so. Just make sure you get a deal on stuff that you can, i'd go with new internals for the motor, but you can probably pick up a cheap exhaust somewhere like craigslist.

Re: Swap or mod?

Hmm, I'm not sure what the difference is between the y7 and y8 versions.

http://www.crower.com/misc/m_cat.shtml click honda/acura under import camshafts from the left, then scroll down to last page for the D16 series motors.

I would do a little research to see what is the difference between the y7 and y8.. I'm thinking its just the head, and if you dont have vtec, then the y8 probably does and it would be worth it to do a head swap and get some head work done to make it flow better.

Re: Swap or mod?

i don't know if am right but i think y7 is non v-tech and the y8 is a v-tech so the y8 has more horse power.

Re: Swap or mod?

The y7 is not vtec and the y8 does. The y7 has 106 hp to the crank and the y8 has 127 hp to the crank. Best bet swap in the b18c1, its easy and a good upgrade

Re: Swap or mod?

Check if a mini me swap is possible- aka putting the y8 head on the y7 block.

Re: Swap or mod?

Its the wiser to leave the civic factory stock, otherwise you will just end up spending lots of money and gaining no actual excitement from the car. You see, the civic is a great car for getting groceries, and getting me to my bingo gatherings. Its wonderful on gas and when I floor it, the car is so gentle that it doesn't give me a queasy feeling at all like my Geo Metro used to do. The rate of acceleration of my civic is about the same as my grandsons moped, so the car is plenty fast enough. But if you are suggesting to have a fast car for the street other than for getting groceries, or bingo, just about any other car on the road is better suited. Plus you will lose your great gas mileage. Good luck sonny.

Re: Swap or mod?

Throwing my opinion in here...

I built my Y8 for N/A and nitrous, and its not worth it. Since i've done it, i will advise anyone else not to. i recently sold it for a B16a2 swap (out of the 99-00 si). it is much easier to gain power out of a bigger motor, especially a twin cam. Don't get me wrong, the Y8 is a great motor, but if you're looking for power on a budget and you have a couple k to throw out, do a swap.
