automatic trans. problem...HELP!

ok..so i am new here..and i have a 99 honda civic auto, we bought it used and it was always a bit tough to get from park into gear (I mean pulling the shifter from P to R or D).

So today, I took the shift **** off and sprayed some lube down it, when i put the **** back on for some reason it got even harder and the key would not come out of the igntion.

I then read online how to get the key out by removing the console and checking key lock switch and adjust the shift cable. I went through all the steps on the 'bulletin' PDF i found....now it wont go past reverse!! I cant get the car to shift from P to D....it will only go as far as R.

HELP!

Re: automatic trans. problem...HELP!

i think theres a problem with the shifter selector. it may be jammed up inside and also engaging the safety mechanism to keep the key inside.

Re: automatic trans. problem...HELP!

I have got the same problem in a 2001 civic. From P it wont go into R or any other gears. I use the shift lock release which is the only way to shift it out of P. However i was told it can be a blown fuse, but the fuse is not located in any of the fuse box. Im still wondering what causes this problem??????
