97 LX fuel relay?

Hi I am trying to find the main fuel relay on my 97 lx four door. i bought this car a few months ago, about 100k on it, changed the plugs, wires and cap,(ngk) fuel filter, pcv valve, air cleaner and valves adjusted/new battery.
the compression is at spec. it runs kind of crappy and although no codes i think it is running lean. i have put injector cleaner through it and continously changed the oil. so i have narrowed it down to the fuel system or o2 sensor.
the engine bay is clean, and appearance wise it is new in and out. so before i change the fuel pump, i am suspecting a mfr (if it exists) because i have noticed the ignition switch is hard to turn when it is above 80 outside, so i am guessing that i might have a bad solder on the injector/ignition switch side of the main fuel relay. please help before i sell it.

Re: 97 LX fuel relay?

yeah theres a fuel pump fuse i pulled that fuse when i changed my fuel pump. its in the main fuse box beside your leg in the car, but theres the main PGMFI fuse you can pull and thats the main relay fuse. its under the hood i believe or on the passenger side, i cant remember. get a haynes book it tells you exactly where it is.

Re: 97 LX fuel relay?

The main relay is on the passenger side under the dash wall facing the door above the ECU. Open the passenger door and removed the panel on the side of the dash. The man relay is bolted to the dashboard frame.

I doubt this is your problem though, usually if this relay goes bad nothing runs. When you turn your ignition switch on before engaging the starter do you hear the relay whir and click? If so then it's probably ok. Earlier Civics did have a problem with the relay and they could be resoldered.

Can you describe in more detail what's wrong with your car beside it "running crappy"? Is there a loss of power? Bad gas mileage? Wandering idle?

I doubt it's your O2 sensor but it could be. They should normally last beyond 100k miles and usually throw a CEL it they're bad.
