d16y8 build?

ive been wanting to fix my engine up ever since i got it... i want to be pushing about 150-160whp N/A just stuff that i get over time like new additions and whatnot, what would be some things that i could get to be pushing that kind of whp? i have a cai and my exhaust pipe goes to about the rear wheel because old owner broke it off lol... so what would i need? cams? header? fuel injectors? intake manifold? ive never built a engine for performance but ive taken apart and put back together plenty... thanks for any help i get guys

Re: d16y8 build?

well after the search feature started working again i started searching around and saw that building a N/A d16 isent a very good idea, sooo i guess ill just go with the greddy turbo kit in about a year or 2 =D

Re: d16y8 build?

I'm a much bigger fan of NA as the Honda engines were designed with that in mind. No matter how good your fuel mapping/timing is with forced induction, the bearings were never designed for it, the open deck design wasn't either and the D series don't even have oil squirters to cool the bottom of the pistons. You are looking at rebuilds that cost WAY more if done for forced induction than one complete engine swap.

Spend the money on an engine swap instead (to a b16 or b18c). With CAI, mandrel bent catback, high flow cat and a quality header (like a Honda 4-1) you can quite easily reach 155WHP on a JDM b16a(more with dyno tuning and adjustable cam gears). The b18C can go much higher.

Re: d16y8 build?

i really really want to do a h22a swap, im a huge fan of that engine... not to much a fan of the prices of the b18 and wouldent go for the ls version of it lol, i was wondering, i heard somewhere that the b16 mounts are the same as the d16 or something? if i was to get a b16 how much would it cost to do the swap overall if it was me doing all the work?

it should cost no more than 3k. im getting a b18 and a manual conv. done for a little bit under 3k. I have a book i bought on handa engine swaps. it tells you what you will need when swapping in d,b,h,f,k series engines. if you want i will send you the link. oh and btw, i would try not to buy the greddy kits. get a greddy turbo and buy all the parts seprately. it should save you some money.

Re: d16y8 build?

yeah, do you think u can send me a link to that? that would be cool. the reason i wanted to go h22a was because i can get one out of the junkyard or something easily but the b18's are expensive from what i hear unless its the weak engines =\ i kinda would want to do a b16 swap because that sounds like a easy one but really who knows... ha i might have enough fun fixing up my brothers 240sx with turboing that KA block hah
