need help, not shifting

my buddy has a 2000 honda civic LX with only 76,000 miles on it

he drove it to his buddies house a half hour away, and back the next day, and overnight, it somehow got into a state where it wont shift.

we went to auto zone and they did a free diagnostic, and the only thing that they could pull was that the ECM had gone bad or there was a cut wire between it and where ever that wire is supposed to go.

my question is, what are the other things this could be, and would anyone know the color codes or a wiring diagram of the ECU that way we can start tracing wires? t

TIA

I assume the car has a manual transmission. Did you check the clutch fluid level and for clutch fluid leaks.

Also, what is the CEL code retrieved by AutoZone?
