Clutch problems ...

On my 96 civic EX; the clutch pedal has simply gone "limp." The pedal goes straight to the floor, and I obviously can't get in or out of gear. Does anyone know if this is a slave cylinder problem? No fluid leaking, has been getting harder to shift over the past week or 2, finally gave out a couple of days ago. Need some help or advice please!!!

Re: Clutch problems ...

if the pedal is on the floorboard, try the spring on the pedal?
if its just limp then maybe the pressure plate is gone?
if its slipping the clutch disc is gone?

Re: Clutch problems ...

Just a thought. Did you happen to look for a fluid leak from the clutch master cylinder where it is engaged by clutch pedal inside of car?

Re: Clutch problems ...

Its most likely the slave cylinder. Not to hard to replace.

Re: Clutch problems ...

It was only slipping if I shifted low into the next gear (usually @ 1500 rpm); and only for a split second.

Re: Clutch problems ...

No leaking fluid at the master, as a matter of fact, it was full when I checked it. I had my wife pump the clutch and there was no fluid movement in the master at all. At the master inside the car, I found no leak. Although I'm going to recheck the return spring now, Thank for the advice!

Re: Clutch problems ...

My advice to you and anyone else....

always start with the small stuff like a spring, clutch cyl. etc...
then if that all check out ok, then move onto the bigger parts like the master, clutchplate, disc, etc...

go the other way, and itll cost ya more then it was worth at the end of the day.
