Ground Wire

Hey guys. I was browsing through ebay today and i came across a ground wire kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-G...spagenameZWDVW. Do you guys think this would really help or would it be a waste of money?

also would i be able to install this myself or should i get someone to do it for me?

Re: Ground Wire

waste!

i did my own, using 4G monster cable & gold plated tabs from the Audio store, Ground the battery NEG to the chassis with it, Ground the engine
to the chassis wherever they strapped it using the crappy copper strand stuff honda uses with it.

Re: Ground Wire

Waste? Then why did you do it?

You will not notice a difference in performance.

But I did it as well (DIY) - just for the look! Ha!

Re: Ground Wire

what i meant by "waste", is buying the grounding kit!
i used 4g cable like mentioned, and yea...no gains except a solid
ground to the chassis now.

*and it looks good if you buy nice 4g cable! lawls

Re: Ground Wire

on a stock car id say that there are no gains but a better ground,
on a car with high-tech computer ****, id say it wouldnt hurt to have
this so-called groundkit (or, one made by yourself which costs a hella lot less).

Replace:
Ground from battery to chassis
Straps from engine to chassis
anything else that can be removed (ground) and replaced with 4G cable.

cuz that crap from honda is brutal, to me it looks like the strands are brittle brand new, their not tied very tightly together (wound/braided) ,that to me says poor ground from the get-go!

but to spend more then what it costs for what....like 6ft 4g cable, some
gold plated connectors on a "groundingkit" from a company that charges
the consumer what? 100.00, 200.00?? ive never even seen the price of one?

Person buying the grounding kit =

Here I searched for you.
The link below is where one of the mods was selling these. You may want to pm him and ask if he is still doing this. There are also a lot of pics, of my grounded engine bay.
I used 1/0 and 2gauge

Re: Ground Wire

Buy it.
And then when you get it, make a post titled, "Got Ripped Off For Stuff From Hardware Store."

Re: Ground Wire

I would recommend asking some of your buddies if they know how to crimp/solder. Ask them to do so for you but buy them the parts. If you don't have friends, or they lack in that skill, then buy a grounding kit. You aren't getting ripped off improving grounds on something that has several hundred thousand miles on it. But just ask around before you spend more money then you have too.

Re: Ground Wire

OK, back to reality...

There's nothing wrong with the OEM stranded copper grounding cables. Replacing these with a 4G or 2G cable is silly really if you think you'll get a "better" ground. A curcuit is either grounded or not. Remember folks we're talking about a 12v system here. The 120v 30amp electrical circuit in your house only uses 12G to run its circuits. Again, I just did it for looks.

The real reason for using the kits is to eliminate shorts that could occur because the tranny to chassis and engine to chassis cables ultimately create a curcuit back to the neg battery terminal. In short the chassis is used to complete the ground curcuit to the battery. The kits are designed to eliminate the chassis as the conductor for the tranny and engine grounds and possibly others. So you end up running long cable from the engine and tranny all the way back to the neg battery terminal and connect it to a special terminal on the battery post. This way the current does not need to pass through a series of bolts, welds, and paint to complete. This would be a better ground because of less resistance and a lower chance of shorting the curcuit.

Re: Ground Wire

So you mean to tell me that grounding kits run everything back to the bat? Heh oops I redid all of my grounds and just grounded them to the chasis. I did it for looksmainly but I thought there were some benefits from it considering the old ones were barely hanging on to the connectors and they were rusted.
