Re: Timing Belt + General Maint Questions
Driving to a shop and having them crack the pulley bolt sounds like a hassle to me. If I were you and didn't have the the special tool or air tools, I would just buy the special tool. You will probably end up having to pay the shop to loosen the bolt for you. (you can find the tool for just under 30 bucks shipped on the internet)

I was putting all me weight into it and the bar was flexing to the max id say... so... i thought if i jump on it either the bolt will break free or the breaker bar will snap.. I jumped on it heard "SNAP", luckilly it was the bolt. I had to do that three times to actually free the bolt up!!!

Wow... the youtube method is the one I used with success... my bolt only had 80k miles on it though. I do believe the more miles the harder it is to free it

'Just did mine on a 2001 I recently picked up used. The car has 182,000 miles, and i know the belt was original, and surprisingly, everything under that cover looked good. I think the mfgrs build in a lot of margin there, but why tempt fate specially on an interference engine. The " recommended " method of removing the crank bolt worked perfectly. Replacing the plugs and setting up the valves gave a surprising improvement in the engine smoothness, and im looking forward to see how much it helps the mpg.
