What do I own ?

Hello,

I just bought a 2005 Civic LX 5 speed manual sedan.
VIN 2HGES15565H551953

Reading up on Hondas I'm seeing references to B Type and F Type and JDM and USDM and etc.
I don't know what they all mean and I don't know what I have. Can anyone shed light on that ?

Re: What do I own ?

Your car will have a D17A1 engine. 1.7L non-vtec. (unless someone has swapped the engine) The chassis code is ES1.
It's a USDM car because you do not live in Japan (JDM)
Hope that helps, congrats on the purchase!

Ah, thanks.
USDM = US Domestic Market
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market
Got it.

Re: What do I own ?

No idea on model numbers.
But when I had my other '05 I swapped the D17A1 trans for the one that came with the D17A2 motor (vtec) which is found in the US EX models. Because of the vtec engine it has different gear ratios and makes the car feel sportier. I swapped to it because my stock trans had a bad input shaft bearing and I preferred to swap to a better low mileage trans rather than fix it.

I believe those are the 2 different manuals transmissions that were offered with these cars, there may have been another version for the HX? Whatever the super fuel efficient model is, it might have had more fuel efficient ratios compared to the A1 tranny.

Re: What do I own ?

B-series are the older 6th generation cars sought of engines (not recommended for swap in our 7th gen cars - older engines in newer chassis could be a no-no for emissions standpoint depending on state laws. F-series is unique to the S2000 (s2k) and are longitudinal engines (an off-shot from the K-series that are used on the 7th gen Civic Si or the Acura RSX)

ours are the D-series

the trans... I see guys asking about BMXA or such, never bothered to check what it means... I simply refer to them based on the model of the car, since there are the differences that Collins listed above.
