Does seem high. Call around.
I chose a Midas type muffler replacement when the OEM muffler failed and in hindsight, I should have looked at a muffler with a longer life span.
IMO, these lifetime muffler replacement shops install cheap mufflers, charge you a lot to begin with and when the muffler does crap out again in a few years, you are required to pay the labour at about $100 each time. Sounds like a cash cow system for them.
I wonder how expensive a nice stainless steel muffler would be?

Re: Muffler Prices
Mufflers aren't hard to do yourself, make sure you have a blow torch for the bolts, and maybe a grinder if you have to cut the nuts off the flange when the bolt breaks.
Bought one for the girlfriend's 99 on rock auto plus the gasket and new spring bolts, spring etc $75 plus shipping ($30ish)
For 05's the most expensive one i saw on ra was like $125.
Or call bay auto parts, or hot spot.

Re: Muffler Prices
Muffler patching kits are sold in parts stores and online but I have never used one and can't comment on their effectiveness or durability.
Try to find an independent muffler shop that's been in business for at least five years. In my area a couple Indy shop are nearly half the price of Nationwide chains like Midas and Meineke.
Price depends on the type of muffler as well. Do your town a favor and don't install a fart can sounding one. Lol
sounds pricey but throwing a quote out over the phone is pretty hard without seeing the vehicle
Bosal makes the exhaust components that bolt in place like OE ...hangers already mounted
Walker / Dynomax is usually multiple pieces more of a universal parts design

Re: Muffler Prices
I see MSRP about USD 300ish for a genuine Honda muffler, donut gasket, 2 bolts, 2 springs. Not sure what that is in Canuckian dollas eh, and not including labor (1 hour, tops).
Word of warning, Even if it looks ok externally, a lot of the time the B pipe where that donut gasket has to fit is rotten under the gasket and won't be discovered until someone takes apart that joint.

i might just wait till the weather gets a bit warmer and tackle it myself.....its just getting progressively louder over the past year....oddly enough my wife doesn't even notice the noise
i crawled under to feel around, and the air/exhaust seems to be escaping on top of the muffler body, so i cant really even see it without removing it,
if the hole was on the bottom and accessible i might try a temporary patch job.....
oddly enough when i got my emmissions test done it passed and they said nothing about it
For the use of a steel can in that article I recommend a can of PBR circa 1975..
"No Opener Needed" wow..'70's technology in action..lol. Just be careful not to swallow the removable pull tab
BTW..How did this can of horse **** ever make a comeback with today's hipster crowd?

For your car they just plug in the obd and run some tests on the computer. Unless theres a massive problem with the exhaust system most testers don't care.
