What is a Muffler Silencer? Muffler & Torque?
What is a muffler silencer and where does it go? Besides lowering noise (I know how we all hate that weedeater sound!), does it affect the performance of the car? Meaning is there a difference in performance between using or not using the silencer?
What choices do I have if I want to maintain torque, consensus is that all aftermarket exhausts for the Civic reduce torque (giving a few more horses at best). I think our cars are already anemic on torque, so I'm hesitant to do anything to the exhaust.

a silincer goes on the end of the muffler . the best way to describe it is like putting a silincer on a gun, less noice.
no real effect on power.
i have a obx catback that came with a tunable silincer. i fell more hp and torque. i haven't dynoed it yet

according to apex'i, you're supposed to gain torque.
i feel a slight gain in torque but a decrease in HP. it also sounds ricey at higher RPM. i would doubt that you would gain HP because if i did, i would always leave it on
