I have a 2001 Honda Civic Ex that's stock with 214,000 miles. It is continually overheating.

Here's what I've replaced:
Water pump 50 miles ago
Timing chain and tensioner 50 miles ago
Thermostat and gasket 50 miles ago
Heater hoses that go into the block 50 miles ago
Temp sensor 5,000 miles ago
Radiator, 500 miles ago

I have no antifreeze in the oil. The oil is clear, not milky. When radiator is filled there are no bubbles. I am not losing oil or antifreeze. The radiator fan and A/C condenser fan still work, but the shroud that holds them on the radiator support is busted; so they kind of just sit there. The car is running smooth. It starts easily in cold weather. The heater core isn't working (I have no heat) but it isn't leaking.
I do hear the fans turning on when it starts getting hot.

The only things I can think of, are these fans aren't working the best and I haven't got the engine pressure tested to see if there are any leaks yet.

Is there anything else I'm missing that could be causing it to overheat?
Please be kind and explain, considering I'm not a master mechanic.

Looks like everything except the head gasket....
like so many other posters with the same problem.

(BTW It does not use a timing chain, it uses a timing belt.)

Clue. Air lock-- air pocket that hasn't 'burped' out of the heater system.

Could be because the coolant has been drained and it just hasn't been properly purged of remaining air, or it could be because the head gasket is bad.

Low coolant level in the radiator is the usual reason they run hot, have poor heater output, and overheat.

The cause of mysterious coolant loss on this particular engine is usually a bad head gasket.
The reservoir overfills or overflows, and at the same time the radiator goes low instead of staying completely full.
Sometimes this happens so slowly nobody can believe it's bad.

I'm going to do a pressure test this week and see what I get out of each cylinder. I was just really hoping it wasn't a head gasket, but overheating has been a chronic problem for this car.

Since it is probably the head gasket is there anything else that should be replaced? I will have the head machined flat again, since I'm sure it will be warped.

If it consumes oil or has been severely overheated, the time to do a ring job is while the cylinder head is off.

Have machine shop measure the head for warpage first. Don't automatically resurface unless necessary.

My 02 ex had same problem, it turned out to be head gasket. Pull your spark pulgs, if any look too clean then thats your sign.
