04 civic lx motor swap to D17vtec. Problems?

Hello, i am new to the honda game but am very much excited to see what i can do with my little honda.

Recntly ive decided to put my car in the shop for a motor swap due to the fact my stock, D17 Non-Vtec, motor has 250k miles on it. Found a D17Vtec motor and am currently putting that in my vehicle. So my question is somewhat simple i hope, am i going to run into issues if i do this? Im currently using my stock ECU and to my understanding it should be able to run the motor just not the Vtec until i get it chipped. Is that correct? I hope this can be an easy swap.

Thanks for any and all help!

If you want to use the VTEC then I'd say to get the engine, the engine harness, and the PCM that all go together as a set.
You'd have to get the PCM programmed for the immobilizer keys before it will run, but that seems the simplest to me IMO.

I have heard of people successfully running piggyback units (e.g. A'PEXi VAFC-II) to control VTEC..

A link from the guy that kinda pioneered the 7thgen k-swap..

I know the links I posted are about VTEC head swaps, but some good info

And, just to quote ezone

Thanks for the help guys. The motor i purchased, i believe, has everything i need except the ECU. Once its up and running again, i do plan on taking it to a guy who said he can chip the ECU for Vtec and what not. Worst case scenario i purchase a 04 5 speed Ex ECU. Thanks again guys for your incite into my problem
