Re: head bolt ?

Posters here have ARP studs in D17s, would ask sdaidoji or other mods about their ARP installs. I've emailed ARP about better bolts for the D17, no answer.

Note that most here who've installed ARP studs, typically haven't driven enough miles for it to know if it'll happen again. ezone's past HG swaps don't seem to come back, and this with the OEM non-TTY head bolts. Your call.

Re: head bolt ?

Hey Josh -- what is the deal with the block guards for the D17? I saw the page linked on the D16Z ARP stud page. Does it keep the cylinders from moving radially in the block or something? Any bad effects on coolant flow?

Interesting... because if its function is to keep hard-street/race engine cylinders stable in an open deck block... then maybe that's why D17s tend to shed their HG seals after 50 - 100K -- same thing happens in stock blocks, just a lot slower.

I wish I knew that ARPs would kill the HG Eater Syndrome in my D17 for good. I know they help hold down the head much more consistently than the stock head bolts... but if the cylinders are the issue and not the HG itself or the head... then it's still square one.

Re: head bolt ?

It's for boost applications to give the cylinder sleeves more strength. It definitely is supposed to help with cylinder walk and keep the cylinders intact however there is lots of debate that it does anything at all. As far as restricting flow I don't know honestly but it can't increase it that's for sure lol
