New camshaft?
Ok well my civic was leaking oil fairly slowly since i changed it to full synthetic and believed thqt my oil pan gasket was the culprit so i took it to my bosses friends shop and after there inspection they figured it was the cam/crank seals, reluctantly i ok'ed the full timing job to go along with it on friday. Today they call me and i was expecting good news that it was done but sadly that was not the case, they attempted multiple gaskets to stop the leak (4 different aftermarkets and 1 oem) then came to the conclusion that the camshaft itself was the culprit($700 fix) and that was causing me to wonder why a camshaft would fail.

I can't see yours so I don't know for sure,
but I have seen some engines that need the cam seal driven in "deeper than flush".
The outer lip of the seal doesn't cover the cam surface when it's only installed flush. Big leak.
See if this might be the problem.

If it is indeed a camshaft issue and you have an ex, I might have an OEM ex camshaft I'll let go for cheap, assuming it's still "preserved" in assembly lube like I left it. It has prolly 130k on it..

WHY would you do this?
expensive oils are over rated, frequency is more important,
your chances of an oil related failure in these engines is pretty much zero,
your camshaft SEAL might be leaking, but not the camshaft itself, thats just nuts

PROBABLE CAUSE: 2001 Honda Civic EX - Excessive end play in the camshaft.

Seal must go deeper than flush.
I bet they aren't pushing the seal in far enough.
So even if they replace the cam, you will still have a leak if the seal isn't in far enough.

I probably would have tossed a seal in it too. You can't see grooves worn until the seal is out of the way and only if you are looking for it.
That isn't something I've seen here on Hondas, although I've seen it in the past many times on other brands of high mileage vehicles.
Maybe the oil we use now has a lot to do with it? IDK.
'Wear sleeves' are available for some applications, although I've never needed to find them for a Honda.

It's already out, and now it's nicked up too?
Top pic looks like the wrong end.
Bottom looks like the pulley end?
If you slide a new seal over the line and the amount of drag on the seal changes when it hits its normal wear spot, its probably enough to leak.
If you can hang a fingernail in the groove, it's definitely enough to leak.

nay the nicking is from it being on the shop floor, well its done 660 for labour 246 for timing kit and like 460 for used beat to **** engine they pulled the cam from for a total of 1518 dollars now i have to deal with a used engine i have no idea to do with
slight no start
well i dont feel like starting a new thread but today my car had a slight hicup starting after alittle bit of driving i made it to my location went in for about 10 min came out and tried starting but all it would do was crank , i tried again and it started up perfectly. moved spots shut it off, tried to turn it on again and it started perfectly no cel no other fuss should i just ignore it or is this a precursor

Could be a fluke, could be any of a dozen things. IDK.
Gas tank under a 1/4?
Can't really do much to figure it out if the problem isn't present.
