Shaking and hopping problems

Hi ALL,
the problem of hopping has not gone away after:
New tires, today
New struts,
front end alignment,
new Lower control arms, 30 days ago
....so far I'm into about $800.+/-

Now

it is not as pronounced, but the steering wheel still vibrates
BUT only really bad at 45-55mph while in neutral, the rest of the time
you can feel the car wants to start vibrating, but doesn't really while
in gear, under a load.
I coast a lot on hills in Vermont.

Mechanic tried to explain why it happens, but seriously he doesn't understand
basic physics nor mechanics of moving parts. So his reasons why it could not be happening did not ring true. He said I have a bad transmission...oh bother.

any informed help would be appreciated.

COULD a broken motor mount somehow contribute to this? I don't see how, but then again I only work on motorcycles....

Jack it up and let the wheels spin with the engine idling, like 1st or 2nd gear....sit in front of each tire and watch the tread .....do the tires spin true and perfectly round, or are they "out of round"?
