Transmission questions 2005 Honda Civic LX

Hi all I have been having some issues with my trany lately. When I am in reverse and putting transmission in drive it does not want to stay in drive. It kind of goes into lala land in-between gears almost. It almost seems like its in neutral but all I have to do is touch the shifter and it will pop back into Drive. But just recently it has been switching out of Drive while driving and I will have to pop it back in. I don't know what's going on with it. Please help...I hope its a simple fix.

do you mean the actual shifter is moving out of the drive position on its own?

It does not move nor does it say its in neutral it kind of just goes out of drive and between neutral. Wherever it goes it won't move my car. Sometimes it won't go into gear until I move shifter to one side or another to make the light on Dash show up.

Sounds like the shifter lever cable adjustment is no longer "in sync" with the detents of the selector lever linkage on the transmission.......

Or the range switch is out of adjustment or bad.

Ezone is correct.

It should be a simple fix, I would have it checked out. And find a tech who knows Honda if possible.
