Re: door lock actuator
i ripped out all those plastics and never had any problem. i think its to keep water from touching the back of the door panel for some reason. and go with the honda part. the whole latch assembly with actuator is no more than $50. i did mine recently and its a really easy job. www.hondaautomotiveparts.com
Re: door lock actuator
If you would be interested in replacing the passenger as well I have a passenger side actuator(only-genuine Honda) that I can't get rid of since I totaled my 7th gen and is not compatible with my new civic. PM me if you are interested!

Re: door lock actuator
The actuator is bolted/screwed to the latch assembly. If you order a new latch it will include a new actuator.
Go with an OEM part, not much difference in price for the gamble.

Re: door lock actuator
driver side whole latch and actuator for coupe is #31 for $42.51 and the actuator by itself is around $37. i would strongly recommend getting the whole latch assembly for an extra $5 because over time the mechanisms and lock rods get old and harder to move. my driver side was so bad, i could not use the key to unlock the door.

Re: door lock actuator
Everything you need to know about replacing the actuator will be in here:
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...-actuator.html
Site I bought the Actuator from:
Standard Motor Products Door Lock Actuator - Front Left
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200..._actuator.html
Part # 6015-07035591
Price: $38.98 (Guess it went up a bit since I bought mine)
My suggestion, is that if you peel back the plastic lining, and dont see a ton of dust/crap inside your door, and mechanisms are somewhat clean, just replace the actuator, spray a little lithium grease on all the moving parts, and you should be fine.
