Purchase Advice

I know very little about Civics. I am interested in buying a 2001 Civic EX 4-Door, auto with 152,000 from a dealer.

Thoughts on how to get it evaluated by mechanic?

Particular problems with this year and model?

Dealer asking $5995--and will provide CarFax

Re: Purchase Advice

When I got my car in 08'-92k mi, the previous owner and I took it to the Honda dealership. Idk if the car your looking at is at a private/honda dealer. Some dealers sell "as is" so you really don't know what your getting yourself into without carfax.

Be sure to look at that carfax, determine the cars reliability from there. Depending on the carfax you can negotiate a little to bring that price down. Look to see if it has had a timing belt change, or auto transmission issues(important). Those are the major issues that car cost you a grand or more.

At 150k-10yrs the car is looking at its later years in life. You can expect things like rubber seals, gaskets, (such as the fuel door not opening) to be dilapidating.

Mine (2001 EX) currently has 146660 or so miles. I recently tuned her up thanks to this forum and she performes MUCH better than before and confident she can hit 200k.
