03 Exhaust Question
03 Exhaust Question
Ok so this is my first post because I am just wanting to put some modifications on my civic. I now want to start making some body and sound modifications to my civic. I am gonna start with a decent muffler (I am shooting for good sound for GOOD price.) Naturally since I am very new I am stumbling across the Cherry Bomb Glass pack because after all of my reading people either have great things to say about them or yell at the poster for being a ricer. I am in no way a ricer but i also dont hate on the people that are. I just want nice loud (not cop attracting) sound from my car. I would like to hear your opinion on the glass packs and if you are against it I would love to hear what you would do and make sure to leave a price and a link if possible. Hope yall can help me!
Thanks Guys.
Thanks Guys.
Re: 03 Exhaust Question
Lol you dont want a loud exhaust and your not a ricer but you want a glass pack muffler. First of a glass pack muffler is as rice as you can get and the glass packs are loud as crap.
If you want an exhaust then go get you a catback exhaust.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
How much are you willing to spend? You should get those big name brands of exhaust like DC Sports,Magnaflow,Skunk2,etc.Those aren't the cheapest, but they're definitely high quality.
Re: 03 Exhaust Question
Really depends. I mean there is only a stock 4 cyl under the hood. Im really starting from no idea at all. I just saw how cheap the glass packs were and saw some good reviews. What do you think? no more than 150? or is that REALLY cheap like I said sorry if i make you facepalm.
Re: 03 Exhaust Question
Do not get a glass pack, you do and you found out why in your signature sorry. A glass pack is just going to make your car loud and not give you no more power. If you get a catback then you will get some power out of it not much since of course you have the lousy d17 as everyone nows that they are not good for power but it will give you some. The catbacks are 400+ and they are good quality and give some pretty good power.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
$150 is cheap. The brands I mentioned start around $400.Actually,the D17A1 can take a lot of mods even though it's not the strongest Civic engine.Starting with no idea isn't bad.You get to learn from mistakes.
Re: 03 Exhaust Question
Alright thanks! I will check those out. This is a big step for me although it probably seems small. I traditionally only do stereo stuff because I feel comfortable with it but its a big as its getting so I want to do this now. I will tell you if i see something.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
I highly recommend the magnaflow 2.25" cat back. Quiet enough to not be bothersome and sounds pretty nice higher up the rpm band. I've owned 2 of them. I got both of them off of ebay, 385 if I remember correctly. Although I'm sure my memory is quite flawed that long ago. When it comes to exhausts though, you get what you pay for. A cheap axle-back will sound cheap. A quality stainless name brand exhaust generally will sound nice.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
As 02civicsi02 said,go on youtube. To me,when VTEC kicks in,the sound is beautiful.lol.Basically when VTEC kicks in,in switches over to a second set of camshaft which is said to add power. You can't really feel the power gain much, but you can hear it.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
who ever told you to put a glass pack on your civic needs a smack in the head. your going to want a universal muffler since as you mentioned your only going for sound. your looking for something like APEXI Ws2 or VIBRANT Street Sower not a canister style fart cannon you want something with more packing in a larger area to give you a nice deep tone but not to loud.

Alright. I am gonna look at that. The big picture is to eventually replace the engine because I want to keep the car I really like it but its life is half over. I am gonna read the v-tech things. And I dont think i am gonna get the glasspack.

Re: 03 Exhaust Question
^^ even if you beat the **** out of it, so long as you maintain it it'll putt along just fine. I've thrown boost with a shitty tune at my engine, after a leakdown test, the shop diagnosed me with a 5% leakage past the rings, and at 117k miles, my engine still runs strong. Sure, I have a few problems here and there, but nothing I can't fix.
