Cast iron shield located in front?

Ok so I got my camshaft sensor replaced on my 2003 Honda Civic LX, great! I noticed now, however, that there's 3 cracks in this cast iron shield looking bit in the car in front of the motor with what looks like the O2 sensor plugged into it. Is this the exhaust manifold? How soon should I get this bigger replaced?

Re: Cast iron shield located in front?

yup. sounds like it's your exhaust manifold. since you have an LX, the catalytic converter is integral to the exhaust mani. Should prolly be up there on your list of things to fix.

Great >_> from the looks of it, it seems to be a matter of removing a lot of bolts and gaskets and putting it back on. Is it that simple?

its not difficult to change at all. theres 5 bolts on the mani to block side and i think 2 on the mani to downpipe end.

and an O2 sensor to take out.. lol..

Can be kind of a pricey part though, just because it has the kitty attached..

Re: Cast iron shield located in front?

Hopefully its not really stuck! you should get some deep creep on there and then not drive it for at least a few hours. That simple breaker in a bottle. Ive learned through experience in Honda... If it doesnt get any lubrication upon installation... You better get some on there for awhile, or its probably not going to come off. Not without breakin something! Keep in mind a 100 bucks for a new 02 sensor is good money you could be using to replace your mani!

Re: Cast iron shield located in front?

Well my car is still getting 42 mpg in my gas so the crack isn't severe. I obviously need to get it replaced but I don't believe it's necessarily immediate (i.e. within the next week).
