HELP Performance Brakes & Rotors?

Hey guys i really want to invest in performance rotors and brakes. But i really have no clue where to look and what to buy. I see cross drilled to slotted rotors but I'm really unsure what will be the best buy. Money is somewhat of a concern but I want the best buy for the buck. Also is there any rotors that wont rust? I know its probably a stupid question but if there was that would be awesome.

Thanks,
King

Re: HELP Performance Brakes & Rotors?

the oem rotors are the best in every way. they have a special zinc coating that prevents rust, all other aftermarket rotors will rust and look nasty (like my brembos lol). also, slotted and drilled rotors weaken the integrity of the rotor and actually provide WORSE stopping power because you are decreasing the brake surface area. and if you are gonna say, why do all these sports cars like porsche have drilled rotors, well for one the holes are CAST into the metal so no structural problems. second, their rotors are almost twice as large as ours. the holes are just for extra cooling, not performance.

i think maybe $40 a rotor? just make sure they are honda and not generic. alot of ppl change the pads, its not really gonna help much but i heard the aem pads and hawk hps are popular. i have the hawks but havent tried em yet.

Re: HELP Performance Brakes & Rotors?

Just to throw in my two cents... I upgraded the front to ATE slotted rotors with Akebono ceramic pads - I used the stock specifications (didn't upsize). I had trouble with my stock rotors and pads. They dusted like crazy for one, but I could never get the shimmy out of them. My Honda mechanic resurfaced them once, and they were back like before in just a few months. Yes, even after I took it gentle on them for several hundred miles after the brake job. Plus the rotor hats rusted like crazy.

These new components are good so far. The ceramic pads hardly dust at all and they're just as quiet as stock semi-metallics. The rotors seem to be holding up, look fantastic behind my upgraded wheels, and they have an anti-corrosion coating that has at least prevented the hats from rusting. There is a little surface rusting after a wash, but nothing spectacular. Only disadvantage after about 1,000 miles is that they like A LOT of heat in them to work well. When they are properly warmed, my Civic flat STOPS now. I ordered my stuff from the Tire Rack.

Re: HELP Performance Brakes & Rotors?

in extreme braking conditions slotted and drilled rotors can help with release of the minimal gases that are produced between the pad and rotor. And most drilled /slotted rotors will reduce the structural integrity of the rotor. Properly built rotors as in OEM, and a few high end braking systems are designed for the slots/holes to be there. Not added as an after thought!

Re: HELP Performance Brakes & Rotors?

Since we are bumping an old-ish thread.. i'll throw in my 2 cents as well. If you are just looking for upgraded pads and rotors, oem or really any other blank rotor and a decent Hawk or similar pad will do you just fine. If you are really looking for bigger brakes, bomerman has started making a kit of sorts for an 11" rotor. It uses a modified prelude caliper and rotor. Great reviews so far, and he runs the kit as well... so that is another option. Much cheaper than any other available BBK out too.
