Strange Noise

Hi everyone,

A couple of times now I have noticed when i turn on my car put it and gear and as soon as I remove the hand brake a weird wining noise is coming from behind the dash in the center.

and ones after i removed the hand brake the noise came on then when in turned the head lights on the noise went away.

I thought this is happening because i recently replaced my old deck, but checked everything again this week and it's all good.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Strange Noise

No it's not the alternaor, it's like a buzzing sound and it's not constant.

if it was the alternator i would hear it most of the time.

Re: Strange Noise

Sounds like your DRL control unit need the famous solder touch-up to me.

Many threads and post exist.

Your DRL will come on when the brake is released and go off when the headlights are turned on.

Re: Strange Noise

no its nothing to do with the alternator, its a completely different sound. its like this specific buzzing whine almost. craigw is right, its the drl control unit and its a very common problem. i know the exact sound and its caused right as your drls get activated and stays the entire time theyre on. once you deactivate your drl by using your lowbeams, it goes away.

i actually went with a friend a couple months ago because he was looking at getting a 7th gen civic sedan just to give him an idea if the car was good or not. the car he went to test drive had that exact same problem.

Re: Strange Noise

yeah its not a hard fix, you just have to have some patience and some steady hands. it shouldnt take too long either. i would highly recommend trying to do this yourself before you disable your drls, or go to a dealership and buy a new drl module. it doesnt seem like its too much trouble. everything you need to know is in the thread below. let us know how it goes.

Re: Strange Noise

did not take long, about 2 hours in total. the soldering was the easiest. taking everything apart is what took the longest.
