Needs help about a ex exhaust setup?

Okay i have a 2002 honda civic lx. Im looking to get new headers and a cat back exhaust, but things ive been reading are saying its a hassle bc its a lx and its easier to go the ex route with everything. please someone break this down for me? how this works? if i do go the ex route what i need? what you prefer? and why? im sorry for the questions im just getting my feet wet into this. Thanks for your help.
