summer projects

so summer has finally arrived for me. im plannin on three jobs this summer tryin to bank some buck. im either gonna try and pull an N/A build off or just work on the outer appearance of my vic. thing is my civic is my daily driver.

would doing an N/A build on my daily driver be a bad idea considering the amount of miles i would be unleashing on it on a regular basis or should i stick to cleaning up the exterior? (ex. lip kit, wheels, possibly suspension mods, HIDs, fogs, etc.)

what do you guys think?

lol while i would be doing the N/A work, id probably be driving my old 97 ford taurus lolol

Re: summer projects

I completely disagree.. performance is more fun, but there is a sidenote to that... n/a on a d17 is expensive, very expensive. It is not a simple summer project to get real hp without a turbo. But that being said.. just go with what you want man, its your car.

Well if you want to get technical, you can get close to 500 hp going the turbo route...I believe someone even made 150ish N/A. It is just very expensive to do so.

Re: summer projects

its a tough decision. you know the ricey kids nowdays, if i did mod the exterior it would definitely sell to an ignorant 17 year old and i would probably get some cash for it. however i also feel that if you're going to go for looks, you should have some power behind it to back it up.

and driving cars with upped performance is fun as hell coming from a 110-120 hp civic. i drove a 350Z the other day and almost shat my pants with that thing lol. one of my family members has a CR-V. ive driven it before and i believe it has a K24 in it? im not positive so dont quote me on it, but its noticeably got a lot more pickup than my civic and even that could keep me happy being at that level of power.

bolt ons will not get me anywhere and its going to be a fairly expensive project. i have a lot more research to do before i would begin and if it is as expensive and time consuming as you guys say, then the summer may not be the time for me to start. i dont want to have my car in a garage with the engine out for a year knowing its collecting dust while i am at school.

i guess i will give it a few weeks, maybe until June, to evaluate costs, potential power, the amount of time, and the weekly payouts from my jobs to see if they are similar and rational. because if i fail to exceed $6000 over the course of the summer i wont bother with the N/A because my garage will be my civic's new home..

Re: summer projects

Honestly man, a great summer project would be suspension work and you can do it over the summer and be done. Drop it, bigger sway bar in the back, strut tower braces, upgrade bushings, engine torque damper, wheels, chassis foam.. and anything else you can think of. That will make it a lot more fun to drive even with the relatively low amount of civic hp. For what its worth, your civic will be faster without 80 lbs of stereo in the trunk.
