cams anyone?
cams anyone?
alright so in the coming months im looking at doing a head swap on my dx to get the vtec ex head. i also want to get a cam to put in when i do so and i was just wondering what the best place to find a cam for the d17 was. little help is always appreciated. thanks guys.
Re: cams anyone?
well i only plan on getting stage one because im not getting a turbo put in until next year. Also, im having someone do the head swap for me so they should be tuning it for vtec and im assuming they would tune for the cam too while its in there since i am paying them. stage two will come next year when it comes time for the turbo install. thanks man.
Re: cams anyone?
How exactly is this person going to tune it? You can't tune the stock ecu. Unless you have a piggy-back or k-pro or something there will be no tuning going on. On that note, if you are really planning to go turbo, I would step up to the stage 2 cam, but again you need some way to tune it first.

Re: cams anyone?
you need an adjustable cam gear too. for all the $$ you will spend on parts, install, and tuning, expect maybe 5-10whp and much less torque than stock. cams mainly just push the powerband up so you have to rev higher to make power. not recommended for a daily driver.

Re: cams anyone?
You can daily drive with any of them, I have a stage 2, but I wanna get a stage 3 instead... and yes, it'll be a daily driver- lots of ppl have done it, dont let the names fool you. More aggressive cam lobes= more power.
BTW... if you want a stage 2 cam, brand new in box, get at me about a deal.
and yes, you'd need the valve train upgrade, but you will need it anyways down the line. You can get the super tech valve train kit, its the same thing but a little cheaper.

Re: cams anyone?
You might want to reconsider that stage 3 cam man. I know bomerman has been tinkering with it a lot lately and said he actually lost power with the stage 3 because on an N/A build, the stock pistons will not build the static compression needed to make power efficiently on the stage 3 cam. I don't quite know all the ins and out of the details, but thats the gist of it.
Re: cams anyone?
Oh ok cool deal about the pistons...
As for your engine management.. I'm consolidating threads. AEM will definitely be a better investment in the long run, but k-pro is best of all. Honestly man, if it was me, I would wait, buy the head and leave it off the car. Do the work yourself and swap the cam and valve train. Buy k-pro and install it. Upgrade your clutch. Then install the head and turbo all at once. It will save you a lot of headaches later on and keep you from wasting money on stuff you will just replace later.
