ok so i have a Sony GTX510 deck and an 01 civic ex 2dr, so i installed all wires according to wiring diagram excluding power antena, since dont have one, and it works kinda, but all radio stations come in and out, why is that? they arent strong any more... did i do somthing wrong?
Re: Need Help Deck Install
Did you use an oversize screw to mount the radio to the frame? If you did, one side of your Sony deck has a PCBoard which is prone to a longer screw and if you hit this PC board its toasted. How do I know this? It happened to me.
Disassemble your Sony deck and check.

Re: Need Help Deck Install
well you just told us your problem, you did not hook up the power antenna wire. hook it up and youll be fine. our civics have a glass mount antenna with booster and you must hook the "power antenna" wire up to get decent reception.

Re: Need Help Deck Install
to the power antenna wire of the new deck? gotta check the sony install manual for which wire. and the harness connector you used for the oem side should have labels too on the package.

Re: Need Help Deck Install
are you sure, i thought orange is illumination wire. if i remember, i think both sides wires are blue but im not sure. the ANT REM is prolly the remote turn-on wire for an amp, im betting the ATT is the power antenna. what does the sony manual say?

Re: Need Help Deck Install
ok so heres what the manual says for this deck...
"Notes on the control and power supply leads:
- The power antenna control lead (blue) supplies +12v DC when you turn on your tuner.
- When your car has built-in FM/AM antenna in the rear/side glass, connect the power antenna control lead (blue) or the accessory power lead (red) to the power terminal of the exsisting antenna booster. For details consult your dealer.
- A power antenna without a relay box cannot be used with this unit."
so in lamest terms what the hell does it mean... my em2 has the antenna built into the rear windshield..... so where do i connect the att wir on the sony deck to my car so reception comes in better?

Re: Need Help Deck Install
okay well you need to look at the package of the aftermarket harness you bought that is plugged into the oem factory wire harness to figure out which wire is for the power antenna. if you cant find this out or you lost the package, you need to tap into the oem yellow/green wire BEFORE the aftermarket harness plugs in. this is the only wire (aside from the big AM antenna plug) that comes from the antenna module thats connected to the rear window antenna. so if all else fails, you need to connect the sony deck's blue power antenna lead to the oem yellow/green wire on the original honda harness (that used to plug into the factory stereo).

Re: Need Help Deck Install

is there something else i can do?
is there something else i can do?
Re: Need Help Deck Install
I think you can get around the antenna problem by connecting the ignition 12+ wire to the OEM yelo/green wire. With this setup your power antenue will always be on when your car is on. Can somebody confirm this as i am not 100% sure?

Re: Need Help Deck Install
yeah thats the same idea, you can give that a try and if it still doesnt work, i think your sony deck just has lousy reception. because without the power att wire hooked up at all, you only get static for most fm stations. i forgot to hook mine up on my alpine and had no reception at all. then i hooked it and it sounded like cd quality.
