trouble starting in cold weather
trouble starting in cold weather
Does anyone else experience this? It'll always get started, but on the colder days sometimes there's a bit more noise in the beginning than i'd like. Is there anything simple to fix this?
thanks!

not really, its just a combination of things. batteries dont work as well, the motor has to idle higher at first to warm up faster, etc. if it starts, dont worry.
Re: trouble starting in cold weather
I've noticed on colder days there's a screeching sound while starting mine. It fires up fine but sounds like the starter is hanging or something. I haven't had it inspected because like gearbox said, "if it starts, dont worry." When/if it doesn't start one cold morning and I have to pay to get it fixed, I'll post what my problem was here.

Re: trouble starting in cold weather
that might just be a loose belt squealing. or the starter motor is messing up. but usually that would be more of a hard scraping sound.

I'd swap the battery if you have hard starts. Optima Red Top if you want, or a cheaper solution would be a good Duralast or whatever the battery brand is now.

On a cold day dont worry too much if it makes werid noises. Just let it warm up for a minute or two before start driving. It was -20C this morning and she made some sounds that ive never heard before. Also the engine will idle higher to warm up.
Re: trouble starting in cold weather
Any reason why everything feels spongy in the cold? Anytime it is around zero degrees everything feels different. The dashboard buttons are spongy, and the gas and clutch both feel like they don't push back as much.
So wierd.
So wierd.
Re: trouble starting in cold weather
Your car will run differently when it is cold because it is running super rich when it is cold. This results in the higher idle as well. As far as everything else, take this into consideration... most car parts' tolerances are within at least a hundredth of an inch. When it is cold, metal contracts drastically which may make that hundredth of an inch show up big time as far as how things feel. If it starts, and idles fine after it is warm you should have no worries. THE MAIN THING BEING IDLE!
