Re: car overheating

do the fans work? may be a bad fan temp sensor or a blown fuse/relay. turn the a/c on and see if both fans turn on. if not, theres your problem. also bad radiator cap can cause overheating.

Re: car overheating

yeah did you bleed the air out? you gotta wait til car is cold, remove rad cap, start car and warm up to operating temp by revving to 3k rpms, then put the heater on max hot and fan, see if air bubble come from the radiator and add coolant to keep it at the top. do it with the a/c on too. once the bubbles stop, shut the car off and put the cap back on.

Re: car overheating

btw if you try that bleeding method and the air bubbles never stop forming after 15 mins or so, it means the headgasket is leaking. theres also the chance that the air bubbles forming a pocket and ruined the thermostat again. so if you are able to bleed all the air, and the car still overheats, replace thermostat one more time.

Re: car overheating

I would do what gearbox said. Another thing u can do is park ur car on a slanted driveway or up on jackstands and let it sit overnight, then top off the next day. Im going to have to say maybe your head gasket is leaking at this point.

Re: car overheating

You would probably overheat if they didnt come on so I think they are working. Do they work when you turn your ac on?

Re: car overheating

we had a similar problem on our dodge van, it was overheating but still kept running, took it to a shop, they finally found it to be a clogged up radiator!

Re: car overheating

I got the same problem, except my fans are coming on when I turn on my A/C. I replaced the thermostat and bled it out, then bled it out again, and it is still doing it! Its wierd cause if im cruising at 60 and not flooring it it will heat all the way up, but if Im gunning it it will start to come back down. And what else is wierd is that it only happens once in awhile. It's really starting to give me a headache. I dont want to overheat my engine and ruin it cause of something stupid!

that almost sounds like the waterpump isnt working properly. and gunning the engine makes the pump turn faster or maybe get it unstuck (since its connected to the drive belt).

Re: car overheating

Re: car overheating

Well I finally got tired of my heat blowing cold everytime I come to a stop light. So I went out and bought a prestone flush kit, and the thing worked perfectly. If your having any kind of troubles like I did my suggestion is to get a kit and flush out your system. It worked perfectly.

nice, maybe the heater core was just a bit clogged then preventing hot coolant from coming through.
