Warming up your car in winter...

Hey guys, so im just wondering do you guys usually let your car warm up for a bit in winter before driving? I usually start my engine clean off any snow if there is any then drive. If no snow then I usually just let me car run for 20-30 seconds then go but ususally try to keep my rpms low below 3,000 for a couple minutes. Anyways do you guys warm up your engine at all? From what ive heard modern engines oil systems are a lot better so that they dont need to be warmed up like old cars.

I probably start it for like 1/2 a min then take off if Im at home or a min or two if Im at work, since Im right by the highway. I also try to keep my revs below 3k rpm.

Re: Warming up your car in winter...

a minute is fine, otherwise you should warm the car by driving it at 3k rpms or below. drive slow until the temp goes to normal. alot of times its so cold that it takes forever to warm up, so driving in a lower gear keeps the rpms up to warm the car faster. when its below 0F and the seats feel like theyre made of bricks, ive actually had my car warm up and then the temp needle started to drop when i was driving in highest gear.

Re: Warming up your car in winter...

no that was in IL lol. it once got to -10F and the car would barely even start, then when it did the idle shot to 2k rpms to warm the engine faster.

I got one too, but I only use it when Im parked at work, or if Im parked outside at home. I dont like setting the sequence for autostart all the time.

I wait until my rpms drop under 1500, my vic doesnt ride as nice above that. Length of time will depend on how cold it is.In my case -37C tonight so 2min to idle but 5min to heat

Re: Warming up your car in winter...

yeah there is but you gotta buy it separately, and you need an outlet to plug it in so if you dont have a garage, it prolly wont work.

Even in Canada, the block heater is an option when buying the car.
