rough idle
rough idle
im having rough idle as if it wants to stall .. I tried changing my gas to higher octane. I already cleaned throttle body and did ECU relearn after, but its still giving me problems .. any ideas?

Re: rough idle
idle should be 700rpm +/- 50rpm in neutral without load. if you have dx, you need an EX cluster. theyre cheap enough on ebay its worth just swapping it in to get a tach. or if you dont want it, they have engine diagnostics tool that plugs into the OBDII port and provide engine readouts of rpm and other stuff.

Re: rough idle
various factors, but usually a clogged intake system, dirty or broken iac valve, tps sensor, etc. mainly the iac valve, which lets in extra air to keep the car idle properly when the throttle is closed.
Re: rough idle
I just recalled something. Before I got the civic I had a lincoln continental. The thing would idle high some times, after much trouble shooting of the vaccum hoses I found it to be a sticky idle control valve - change it and it fixed it.
this is how I did the trouble shooting - i took the iac off, and covered the port close to the intake manifold with my palm. Then I just slowly opened and closed it....the engine rpm went up & down...more port opening, higher rpm and vice versa.
plus take the iac off and see if it moves when u turn the engine on...if it is not moving...u know that is the culprit. (spraying engine degreaser did not help for me)
hopefully this helped....

Re: rough idle
I just had rough idle and some misfires on my LX. My valves were way to tight from the dumbass that rebuilt my head, causing a leak into the intake manifold. You may want to have the valve clearance adjusted. A compression test would confirm a mechanical problem like this before tearing into it.
