headers or no headers?
headers or no headers?
hey guys i've been looking into it alot for the past week i really want to put headers on my civic but i've been hearing all different stories. Basically i need some people to tell me, they put them on and everything worked fine. lol
-The engine light didn't come on
-Both O2 sensor are able to be put back in
-No difference in gas mileage
Also can headers be bolted on to original exhaust system? I know its best to do a full system and in time i would like to but for now i have limited money. I have researched this topic and didn't find as much info as i would have liked.

Read this: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...haust-faq.html
You might notice a change in MPG, but only like 1 to 3 mpgs, nothing crazy like 10mpg less. Yes, when I did it, everything worked fine wihtout problems.

Re: headers or no headers?
Personally, I would not invest money into a header for this car. Not if you're keeping the motor stock, anyway. Especially if you are bolting it up to the stock exhaust system. If anything, you should get a cat-back system (or even axle-back) before getting a header. If you rework your head, sure...but if you just want something that 'looks cool' when you pop your hood, forget about it. You will not see any substantial performance gains at all. Not only that, but you will create a chain reaction of issues you will have to deal with.

Re: headers or no headers?
Yeah I bought a JVT racing header that bolted right up to the stock down pipe and they have worked fine. Nothing noticable in hp but it worked great. (None of this matters anyway, cause im gonna BOOST MY BITCH!)...soon anyway.

Re: headers or no headers?
From what I hear the downpipe is double insulated, so if you can get a header that goes all the way back to the cat like the dc 4-1 then yeah you should and could get rid of it!

Re: headers or no headers?
Great to see the same old questions are being asked...
Headers on the d17 are pointless....
Honeslty so is boost on it. Ive had both, save your money buy nitrious(ive had that too) for some quick races. Boost is expensive and hard to tune on the d17 when its done right
Throw on a Catback exhaust get some sound and be happy

Ajhdragon, When You Ran The Bottle, How Big Of A Shot Did U Use, And How Long Did Ur Engine Last! And How Much Whp Did U Get On A Shot? As Far As A Swap, I Frickin Wish! A Swap Out Here In Salt Lake Runs About 5 To 6 Grand! I Might Be Able To Push 3 Or 4, But 5 And 6k Is Way To Much For A Dad And Husband!

Re: headers or no headers?
I had it ran in diffrent ways, origionally I ran a 50 dry shot... then swapped it over to a 75 wet shot which is much much much safer and easier to tune, then I had it set up to cool the air in the intercooler when it was turbo.
The engine, well its still runing strong.

Re: headers or no headers?
Can someone give me a clue on what "Headers" are? I know what exhaust manifold is, I know what a flex pipe is, I know what a muffler is but im a bit confused what a "header" is. Also catback exhaust means just a certain type of exhaust correct?

Re: headers or no headers?
header=exhaust manifold
catback means all the pipes AFTER the cat including the muffler. axleback means just the bolt-on muffler.

Re: headers or no headers?
true, true, but how can you not know what a header is? Or a catback? He knows the other terms like exhaust manifold... How could you not know header?
Re: headers or no headers?
Well, in my case, I bought a header for my LX. Then, I had to search around and find a defouler for the 2nd O2 sensor because I couldn't find one in my area. So, I ordered one from E-bay. Had to wait for it. Once I got it, I did a fitment and realized that the alternator and A/C lines were in the way. So, I would have had to take it to an exhaust shop to have the second O2 bung relocated. Then I decided that I didn't want to delete my cat converter afterall, so then I would have had to buy a new cat and extend my second O2 sensor wire blah, blah, blah. All of that effort and $ for what...1 or 2 hp? No thanks. I just sold it in the end. I'll wait for the Magnaflow header/cat combo for the LX if I'm still interested by that time. The issues I was talking about weren't necessarily things going wrong with the car after installing it, but rather all the bullshit trying to get it put on.
