Cold air intake help
Cold air intake help
Hey guys just got a 01 Civic SI 2 weeks ago. Anyways this thing is basically stock still except for a basic K&N filter. I want to put a cold air intake in it. Im not sure how to bypass the air box yet, and was wondering if there is a guide somewhere? Also, can someone give me some tips on which cold air intake would be the best bang for the buck? Not looking for high end. Just whatever will do a good job and wont cost so much.
Thanks a lot!

Re: Cold air intake help
Its probably a Canadian Si, which is the same as the US EX.
In order to install a cold air intake (CAI), you have to remove your stock air box and then attach the CAI tube to the throttle body using the hardware supplied. Also check out the DIY section of the AEM intake install, that should tell you want you need to know.

^yup, probably the case!

as for the CAI, yea...it connects to the same pipe as the TB then move down and underneath the front lower bumper. In order to do this yes...youll need to remove the stock airbox completely!
Few pointers:
~ Always disconnect the NEG- terminal whenever performing work on your car.
~ if you live anywhere an area known to flooding, consider an SRI instead.
~ if you do install the CAI, double check all the coupler clamps making sure they are good and tight and all the mounts are solid/tight. The AFM will also need to be installed into the pipe before the TB aswell but take care not to damage it and make certain its mounted good and tight aswell. After the install let the car idle for 10-15 minutes so that car can re-learn, then go for a test drive.
well, thats a few to get you on your way.
good luck

Re: Cold air intake help
this is the way it works for our 7th gens.
american hx/lx/dx = canadian lx/dx
american ex = canadian Si
american Si = canadian SiR
so to us up here in canada, yes its an si, but only because we call the REAL si an SiR. its the same as ex in the states, so when you look up buying parts, make sure they accomodate a civic ex.

Re: Cold air intake help
as for your intake mod....depending on where you live in canada, you either get tonnes of snow like alberta and eastward, or you get tonnes of rain like in bc.
either way, you get a lot of wetness. i would suggest getting a short ram intake instead of a cold air intake just incase you get that one shitty day and some bad luck where your cold air intake filter sucks some water up because its close to the ground and you bend a rod in the engine. the whole theory behind cai is that its lower to the ground so its far from the engine and doesnt suck in as much of the hot air...which is true in theory. on our cars however, the difference in the air it gets is so minor youd never notice a hp difference. with the combination of the sri filter sitting in a nice place for air flow, and the fact that the grill in our 7th gens breathes pretty well, youll get a fair bit of cool air flow into the engine bay, so id recommend a sri instead.
