Tie Rod Ends

Over the weekend I installed new shocks and springs on my '01 coupe and while doing this I noticed that the rubber boots on the outer tie rod ends were shot. I was informed by the dealership (they were doing my alignment) that they cannot replace just the rubber boots and their mechanic said I need to replace the outer tie rod ends. Has anyone replaced just the rubber boots before or am I really in for new outer tie rod ends? If I have to end up replacing the tie rod ends I want to do the work myself. Any suggestions and/or things I should know before doing this work?

Re: Tie Rod Ends

i did the same thing. all you have to do is go to auto zone or discount auto parts and tell them you need to order one. i got mine in a day and it was all good.

Re: Tie Rod Ends

i just got the whole thing. chances are if the boot is gone there is damage to the tie rod anyway. make sure you tighten them too and not leave one side loose like sears did with mine lol.
