grounding

i think ive pretty much narrowed down the problem with help from you guys to the whistle sound being bad grounding.

im going to install a grounding kit in my car, but this question is for those of you who have experience with them, or just used trial/error.

should i use a system like the diy where i just start at the battery and keep connecting to the different points all with no central grounding unit?

or should i use a system with a type of 'central' grounding unit like this one?

Re: grounding

oh and one more thing....and out of all the kits with a central system like that, none of them have been any bigger than 6 gauge wire.

from everything ive read ive pretty much figured that everyone likes to go with wire no smaller than 4 gauge...so should i skip the whole kit and buy a length of 4 gauge wire and do it myself?

Re: grounding

just replace the stock wires with 4 gauge ground wire from stereo shop and put some ring terminals on the ends. not hard at all. then ground the stereo directly to a good chassis point.

Re: grounding

on the diy it shows one of the wires going to the spark plug covers...was there any reason for that or was it just for looks? does it actually work as a ground if you file the powder coating off of that bolt?

as for the stereo, the ground wire coming out of the back of the stereo is a really small gauge. what size of wire should i use from the chassis to connect to that small ground wire from the back of the stereo harness?

Re: grounding

i used 14 or 16 gauge for the stereo power and grounds. and no you dont need a ground for the ignition coil.
