Clutch Problems

Ok so I was going down a hill with the clutch held in and I was braking when the clutch kicked back and I heard something rattle. Then it happened a again so I had it in 5th and released the clutch. Well the RPMS went nowhere. This is my first standard vehicle and It starts up with the clutch in but if I release the clutch with it in first it won't stall and I try to go and it won't do anything but rev the engine. Do I need to replace the clutch or what is it do you think? Im worried about cost and how fast I can get it running again.

Re: Clutch Problems

It almost sounds like you broke the input shaft in the transmission....

Re: Clutch Problems

So it probably isn't the clutch??? How much would a input shaft be?

Re: Clutch Problems

My guess is if you can operate the clutch, it probably isn't it. Either way, it ain't gonna be cheap. I'm no transmission expert, so I don't know if you could replace just the imput shaft....I'm guessing that you can't. Even if you could, I'd highly doublt it'd be something you could in your driveway.

Take it to mechanic to get it diagnosed. You'll probably just be better off picking up a used transmission.

Re: Clutch Problems

Ok so I got the results back... I think I'm getting dicked around a little but I just want it done. The guy said that the clutch for the Civic could have an everyday clutch or a special clutch. WHAT??? But my clutch was shattered I guess. I don't drive it hard and when it happened it was the strangest thing... About 700 I guess is the price I hope I get it back tomorrow.

Re: Clutch Problems

I replaced the clutch it ended up costing me 550 but now there is a problem with something else its getting looked at Friday it performs like normal just this high whining noise from maybe inside the engine. Or the timing belt... I'm scared to drive it causing it more problems but I have to get to work and such....
