Rattling Noise Coming from the Engine

Lately I've been hearing a loud rattling noise coming from my engine bay. You can only here the rattling when I'm in neutral and when I'm pressing on the gas, but sometime you don't hear it. I'm co-worker told me it might be my heatshield underneath my exhaust. So lifted my car up and checked, but I couldn't find anything wrong. So if this has happened to anyone else could you please tell me what's wrong, so I don't have to waste my money a stealership. thanks

Re: Rattling Noise Coming from the Engine

I have the same problem, i can hear a little rattling and its loudest when im in the 3500-4000rpm range. I thought it was the heat shield under my exhaust too, i checked it and it was fine. I just put headers and intake and all that so i opened it up a little but i still have my stock exhaust. I was doing a little research and i found that honda double walled the exhaust? and i was talking to my friend about it and we checked it out and its def not coming from the motor because we couldnt hear it when we were basically on top of it. You can hear it clear when inside the car, so i got underneath it again and it sounded like there was something inside my exhaust. Down the whole pipe. He said he used to have a VW that had the same problem and the exhaust was double walled and when he got a new exhaust for it, it was fine. I dont know if you have a stock exhaust or what but i hope it helps!

No I don't have a stock exhaust on my car, but thanks though. I might just bring it to honda to diagnoise it and take it from there.

Thumbs up Re: Rattling Noise Coming from the Engine

Hey, I'm new to these forums and this is my first post...hope it helps.

Last summer I changed the exhaust on my car and all the piping as well. The piping I installed was all 2.5 inch and came together in a few different pieces that attached together with flanges and gaskets between. At one part where two of the flanges attached to one another, it happened to be right underneath the heatshield thats below the passenger side about mid-way along the car. The connected flanges were tapping against it so it was a fairly loud rattle, and usually only happened when I was sitting in neutral, or the odd time when I gave it gas. After a couple months and hoping it would go away and didn't, hahaha. I had enough.

All I did was laid down and notched out a little piece of that heat shield (only kind of on the sides and around where the flange was tapping) with a set of tin shears and I've never heard it do it since.

Hope that's all your problem is.
